Barry, Global Village Champions ambassador and boxing legend Evander Holyfield and their team have so far released 52 Syrian refugees from camps and transferred them to a newly renovated four-star hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital city. The hotel is being leased by Barry. The Syrian refugees will receive an education, healthcare, food and jobs.

“Seventeen of them were living on the floor, no bathroom, no running water,” Barry told WFLA journalist John Rogers via Skype. “Their homes were blown up. They had businesses. They literally left with the clothes on their back.”

While in Bulgaria, Barry met with Bulgaria’s prime minister to discuss the refugee crisis facing Bulgaria. Bulgaria is the only country in that part of the world accepting Syrians who have fled Syria because they fear for their lives.

Through GVCF, which was co-founded in 1995 with longtime friend Muhammad Ali, Barry has delivered over 960 million meals to the hungry around the world.

“What Yank does for those in need is amazing,” says Glenn Selig, president and founder of the national PR firm, The Publicity Agency. “His story and efforts should be told; it shows that people are doing good in this world.”
