In a full page ad in today’s Los Angeles Daily News, appearing on the same day of the much-anticipated GOP debates airing live on CNN, ultra-conservative GOP lobbyist Jack Burkman attacked frontrunner Donald Trump for having “no moral compass” and challenged the other Republican candidates to “do something” about declining morals in America.

“As a country, we now decry traditional marriage and celebrate gay marriage; we’re spending more time on Caitlyn Jenner and the ‘transition’ than talking about the traditional family. We’ve lost our moral compass,” Burkman writes in the open letter.
In the ad, which claims “we’ve lost our moral compass” and features a far-left pointing compass atop a silhouette of the United States, Burkman calls out several of the candidates by name.
“Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum and Scott Walker: You are supposedly the most conservative of the bunch, yet you stay silent as the moral decay eats away at our country. You pander to the media and the public for fear of being politically incorrect or a backlash,” he writes.

Last year, Burkman organized a boycott against Michael Sam and the teams that hired him after Sam became the first openly gay NFL player. Burkman also drafted and shopped a bill that would have banned openly gay men from playing in the NFL on moral grounds.
“I challenge you to speak up during the upcoming CNN debate. I’ll be watching. And so will America. I am doing everything within my power to change course. What will you do?
“We need a Republican who has the testicular virility to stand up for traditional values. Is that one of you? Or does someone else need to get into this race?”
FULL TEXT OF OPEN LETTER CHALLENGE TO THE GOP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES FROM JACK BURKMAN
September 16, 2015
Dear Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie ,Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Jim Gilmore, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, John Kasich, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Rick Perry, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum, Donald Trump, Scott Walker;
Remember that huge boycott against: Michael Sam becoming the first openly gay player? I organized that. Do you recall hearing about a bill that would ban openly gay players from the NFL? That was me too. My name is Jack Burkman. I’m a D.C. lobbyist, actually the top lobbyist according to The Hill.* I also have a radio talk show syndicated across California and the US.
As a country, we now decry traditional marriage and celebrate gay marriage; we’re spending more time on Caitlyn Jenner and the “transition” than talking about the traditional family. We’ve lost our moral compass.
Donald Trump: You have no moral compass. You’ve been pro-choice, pro-life, pro¬ choice and now pro-life again. You’d believe in anything that would get you elected. You’re a joke. Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum and Scott Walker: You are supposedly the most conservative of the bunch, yet you stay silent as the moral decay eats away at our country. You pander to the media and the public for fear of being politically incorrect or a backlash.
Those of you with anemic poll numbers might want to listen up: You could get a bump if you did speak your mind on moral decay (of course depending on what you say). A Gallup poll this year found a whopping 72% of Americans believe that morals in the country are getting worse.**(Not surprisingly, the poll got almost no coverage).
I challenge you to speak up during the upcoming CNN debate. I’ll be watching. And so will America. I am doing everything within my power to change course. What will you do? We need a Republican who has the testicular virility to stand up for traditional values. Is that one of you? Or does someone else need to get into this race?
