From a trip to Bulgaria to free and care for Syrian refugees to feeding hungry people all over the world, two-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee Yank Barry discussed how he went from the lead singer of a ‘60s band to become a philanthropist and humanitarian in a wide-ranging, front-page article in the Sarasota Herald Tribune.
Barry, who has been referred to as the “Jewish Schindler” by The Jerusalem Post, traveled to Bulgaria in mid-November to take several Syrians out of refugee camps. Barry and his team, which included Global Village Champions ambassador and boxing legend Evander Holyfield, rescued more than 50 Syrian refugees who fled their homeland and set them up in a hotel in Bulgaria’s capitol of Sofia. The former lead singer of the band The Kingsmen is paying for their food, lodging and health care.
“We’ve made a commitment that this will not be a burden on the Bulgarian public,” Barry told reporters.
The piece published by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune on December 26th also looked at the part-time Sarasota resident’s other business endeavors, which includes music and commercial jingle production, ProPectin and VitaPro.
