Hot off of its star-studded, Hollywood-style red carpet premiere in Reno, Nev., “Snake & Mongoo$e,” which stars Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy) as Don “The Snake” Prudhomme and Richard Blake (Dragonball; Evolution) as Tom “The Mongoo$e” McEwen, received enormous support from movie-goers, and looks to carry the momentum into its nationwide release next month.
“Snake & Moongoose racked-up the second-highest per screen gross average in the country, taking in more than $20,000 at the box-office. The independently produced drag racing biopic pulled a higher per screen total than studio blockbusters “Elysium” (TriStar Pictures), “We’re the Millers” (New Line Cinema,) and “Planes” (DisneyToon Studios.)”
“With an independent film like ‘Snake & Mongoo$e’ it’s vital you choose the correct venues,” said Robin Broidy, “Snake & Mongoo$e” producer. “We’re happy with the reception Reno provided and we look forward to even more success in the days ahead.”
Producers of the film chose Reno for a Hollywood-style red carpet premiere because it fit together perfectly with the inaugural Hot August Nights Auction presented by Barrett-Jackson at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. At the event, the iconic Hot Wheels Yellow and Red Haulers and the Cuda and Duster Funny Cars raced by Prudhomme and McEwen were on display together for the first time outside of California in 40 years.
“Snake and Mongoo$e” is set for another premiere event in Indianapolis on Thursday, August 29, 2013.
The film opens nationwide September 6, 2013.
Set in the heyday of drag racing and based on a true story, “Snake & Mongoo$e” uncovers for the first time on the big screen the compelling rivalry and breakthrough sports marketing accomplishments of Don “the Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “the Mongoo$e” McEwen—including a Hot Wheels partnership that proved game-changing for all parties.
The film also features Noah Wyle, Tim Blake Nelson, Fred Dwyer, John Heard, Ashley Hinshaw, Ian Ziering, Leonardo Nam, Kim Shaw and Julie Mond.
