Babb, MD, MSCAI, FACC, FAHA, Cardiologist to their prestigious organization with his upcoming publication in The Leading Physicians of the World. He is a highly trained and qualified physician with an extensive expertise in all facets of his work. Dr. Joseph D. Babb has been in practice for more than four decades, and is currently serving patients within the East Carolina Heart Institute in Greenville, North Carolina.
Dr. Babb’s career in medicine began in 1966 when he graduated with his Medical Degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. An internship and residency in internal medicine followed at Massachusetts General Hospital. He then entered the US Army for two years, the first serving in the medical corps in Vietnam and the second at Walter Reed Hospital.. He then returned to Massachusetts General Hospital to complete a fellowship in Cardiology. Following completion of the fellowship, he became an Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Pennsylvania State University Hershey Medical Center where he worked for 10 years as a cardiologist. While there he attended a course in angioplasty given in Zurich, Switzerland by Dr. Andreas Gruentzig, the father of coronary angioplasty. Upon his return, he performed the first coronary angioplasty at Hershey in 1981. Shortly thereafter he moved to Connecticut to become the Chief of Cardiology at The Bridgeport Hospital, a Yale affiliated institution. Subsequently he performed the first coronary angioplasty in the state of Connecticut. Fifteen years later he moved to North Carolina to join serve as Professor of Medicine as a cardiologist at The East Carolina University School of Medicine where he serves to this day.
Dr. Babb is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and alongside his practice he serves as a Professor of Medicine at the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. He has earned the coveted title of Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Fellow of the American Heart Association, and is also a Master of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. Dr. Babb attributes his success to his upbringing and education, and when he is not working he enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.
