As part of its newest initiative that aims to make it easy to do business in Nigeria, the Nigerian government named Tampa-headquartered SELIG Multimedia, Inc. the official sponsor company.

The initiative is trying to lure small and medium-sized United States companies that want to do business in Nigeria and agree to mentor Nigerian companies interested in learning about American ingenuity.

“The program provides an environment which makes sure that U.S. companies are able to make money and compete in an ethical environment that’s free of corruption and in exchange the U.S. company brings American know-how to the work force in Nigeria,” says Mr. Chika Sylva-Olejeme, Chief Mentorship Officer of the National Mentorship Office of Nigeria. “SELIG Multimedia, Inc. will intersect with all the U.S. businesses to make sure there’s no breakdown in communication between them and the Nigerian government.”

The mentor program also promises to remove slowdowns, red tape and bureaucratic barriers that typically make it difficult to do business in Nigeria.

The bulk of the communications work for Nigerian National Expatriate Mentorship Strategy (NEMS) will be conducted by SELIG Multimedia, Inc.’s global PR firm The Publicity Agency.

The Nigerian government is cutting through the proverbial red tape for any U.S. company that signs up to mentor Nigerian businesses, saying the country want American companies to make money in Nigeria, Africa’s most economically robust country.

“We are so honored to have been selected for such a vital role in what sounds like will become a transformational program for Nigeria,” says Glenn Selig, president and CEO of Selig Multimedia, Inc. “Our job is help make sure it succeeds and steer clear of any potential pitfalls.”

On Tuesday, Mr. Selig joined representatives from the Embassy of Nigeria as Sylva-Olejeme shared the program details with Mr. Skip Jones, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Middle East and Africa, and his team at the U.S. Dept. of Commerce.

The mentorship initiative is part of Nigeria President’s plan to create a globally competitive economy.

Selig says his company also signed up to be a mentor company and plans to train Nigerians in public relations both in Lagos in Nigeria and Tampa.
