Stephen J. Peterson, MD, MACP, Internist at the New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital Department of Medicine has been named a 2017 Top Doctor in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Stephen J. Peterson is a very experienced physician, having been in practice for more than 35 years. His long and successful career in medicine began in 1982 when he graduated from the Cebu Doctors’ College of Medicine in Cebu City, Philippines. After returning to the United States, he completed an internship, residency and chief residency, respectively, at the New York Medical College/Metropolitan Hospital Center.
Dr. Peterson is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and with a wealth of experience to call upon he diagnoses and treats a wide range of conditions including allergies, obesity, respiratory infections, hypertension and diabetes. He is particularly renowned, however, for his basic science research in the field of obesity.
Alongside his practice, Dr. Peterson serves as Chair of the Department of Medicine at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and as a Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. He is also the Assistant Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College for the NYP/ Brooklyn Methodist campus. He has been awarded the coveted titles of Master of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American Heart Association, and Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. He is also a former President of the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians. His dedication and expertise makes Dr. Stephen J. Peterson a very worthy winner of a 2017 Top Doctor Award.
