With an upcoming publication in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare, Eugene C. Eckhardt, RN, MSHS, MPA, joins the prestigious ranks of the International Nurses Association. Eugene C. Eckhardt is a Nurse Manager with 25 years of experience in his field and an extensive expertise in all facets of nursing, especially correctional nursing. Eugene is currently serving patients within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at Men’s Central Jail facility in Los Angeles, California. The Department operates the largest jail system in the country and Eugene is responsible for the medical operation available to approximately 4800 inmates with direct management of 75 licensed nurses, and clerical staff.
Eugene graduated with his Nursing Degree in 1991 from Pierce College in Los Angeles, California. An advocate for continuing education, he obtained his Master of Science Degree in Health Sciences from Trident University in Cypress, California, and his Master of Public Administration Degree from National University in San Diego, California. To stay current with the latest advances in his challenging field, Eugene maintains a professional membership with the American Nurses Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.
Eugene shared his story behind bars in the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail with accomplished journalist and Emmy award-winning reality TV producer Genevieve Wong in NurseWorks Magazine digital July/August 2013 issue. Furthermore, he has published the article “Enhancing Healthcare Through Architecture and Design.” Eugene feels that a combination of education and practical experience, as well as staying up to date in his field have been the primary factors to have contributed to his success. When he is not working, Eugene enjoys photography, swimming, surfing, and anything to do with the water.
