Will SSUM/A – Under the Leadership of his chairman, Mr. Denay Chagor brings unequivocal Political and Economic change to the people of South Sudan? You bet it will, South Sudan Needs a New Leadership

(PR NewsChannel) / March 20, 2018 / South Sudan

Mr. Denay Chagor Chairman and Commander in Chief of South Sudan United Movement Army.

South Sudan United Movement was formed in 2014 by South Sudanese patriots from all tribes and nationalities in South Sudan, and because of the diversity of the people who joint South Sudan United Movement, they could not come up with a better name for the party other than “South Sudan United Movement” Currently their forces control three states in South Sudan, which Unity State, Jongolei State, and Upper Nile State. Two of the States they control are oil-rich states. South Sudan United Movement / Army has about 36,000.00 troops in South Sudan.

“Our new leadership will set a goal of eliminating corruption and waste to maintain political stability and socio-economic development, consolidate the people’s trust, build a stronger and cleaner Party and State and a contingent of incorruptible, disciplined cadres, and promote democracy. Strict measures will be taken to deal with corruption cases. Those who commit an act of corruption and violated human right should face administrative or criminal penalties no matter who they are and what position they hold” says, Mr. Denay Chagor  Chairman and Commander in Chief of South Sudan United Movement Army Forces.

Current Political Peace Process in South Sudan

The East African organization call Intergovernmental Authority on development (IGAD) has been conducting peace talks between us the warring parties of South Sudan in Addis Ababa – Ethiopia since 2014 and unfortunately, they still have not been able to bring about the everlasting peace to South Sudan. Currently, more than 5 million displaced and half a million internally displace and are seeking refuge at the UN protection camps in South Sudan. South Sudan United Movement (SSUM) is currently working closely with the Western countries which include United States, United Kingdom, Norway, European Union, China and Russia. South Sudan United Movement and its close friends concluded that there is no way to bring about peace in South Sudan other than regime change.

South Sudan government is killing its own citizens arresting and perhaps killing western journalists.  Amnesty International, Enough Project organization and the UN panel of Experts on South Sudan and as well as Human Right watch groups all these international organizations have been reporting the atrocities that the Government of South Sudan has been committing over the years

It is obvious South Sudan is in the terminal stage of state failure. State failure is measured on a quadruple standard of representation, security, and attention to the welfare of citizens.  State that is unable to provide – the unequivocal political will to its people – mislay legitimacy and, in the eyes and hearts of a growing plurality of its countrymen, the nation-state itself becomes felonious. Civil war after civil war has been a practice in South Sudan.

In early 2017, the government of South Sudan declared that parts of the country had been hit by severe famine. This famine was another sign of the many ways in which a disastrous war was killing people. South Sudan had at that point been in a civil war for three years, with the humanitarian situation steadily deteriorating since war broke out in December 2013. The governing Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and its army, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), had split following a long-brewing political conflict. In the first few days of the war, the political rivalry had turned into fierce fighting; killings were targeted along ethnic lines. President Salva Kiir remained in charge of the government and the national army, while a coalition of military commanders headed by former Vice President Riek Machar became the SPLM-in Opposition (SPLM-iO).

These both parties are old and full of corruption. Recently proposed a reconciliation process utilizing traditional conflict resolution mechanisms which could produce a negotiated compromise for power sharing, a transitional government and free and fair new elections – this is what South Sudan United Movement/ Army, believe – to go forward.

South Sudan United Movement is currently being led by Mr. Denay Chagor as Chairman and Commander in Chief of South Sudan United Movement Army Forces.  Mr. Chagor who was born in Akobo South Sudan and then moved to the United States of America at the age of 15. He grew up in Minneapolis Minnesota and went to University of Minnesota where he graduated with a Political Science degree and later went to University of Wisconsin in Madison and completed master’s degree in public relations and business management. Mr. Chagor was one of the secretariats during South Sudan and North Sudan peace negotiation in Naivasha – Kenya in 2003 -2005. Before becoming the Chairman, he served as the Chief negotiator for South Sudan United Movement during South Sudan peace talks in 2014.

Mr. Chagor said “Over the past several years, we’ve all become much more aware of the forces that will powerfully shape south Sudan over the next decade. We see Millions of south Sudanese striving to improve their quality of life, and ideas about what constitutes an improved quality of life shifting. For many south Sudanese, it’s about better access to food, water, and shelter and less vulnerability to disease, and it’s about better governance, freedom from corruption and oppression, and respect for basic human rights.

He added, “Our leadership will set a goal of eliminating corruption and waste to maintain political stability and socio-economic development, consolidate the people’s trust, build a stronger and cleaner Party and State and a contingent of incorruptible, disciplined cadres, and promote democracy. Strict measures will be taken to deal with corruption cases. Those who commit an act of corruption should face administrative or criminal penalties no matter who they are and what position they hold.

All previous and current Party members who have shown signs of corruption and waste should be deprived of their current post although their wrongdoing has not been confirmed. Properties obtained through corruption should be confiscated. Organized corruption should be harshly dealt with.”

According Mr. Chagor, “The Criminal Code must change to supplement with increased fines for corruption. Freedom and justice, education and health, the pursuit of prosperity and other rights are your rights that you are entitled to as citizens. They are by no means any acts of generosity given to you by the rulers who have imposed their will on you. These are rights that we should never relinquish to anyone.”

SSUM/A believe, The current government Defense Forces must be an apolitical national army that will not be used to protect the narrow interests of the ruling party, but the national interest of the country. It is tragic that instead of being the people’s protectors, the army is being forced to commit atrocities against its own people and, as a result, viewed as a brutal force totally alienated from the people.

Officers and soldiers must understand that lasting benefits such as developing their skills, ensuring their employment, promotion and as well as their security are not guaranteed by the amount of loyalty they show to the dictators in power. Sooner or later the dictators will face the verdict of the people and the fate of officers and soldiers too will be determined by the people.

The movement has no illusion that the struggle will be easy and understands that the road ahead is fraught with serious challenges. SSUM/A, strongly believe that if they all work together, united in a common purpose, freedom from tyranny is inevitable. The establishment of a democratic system in South Sudan is not a choice but an inescapable part of their survival!

The true Activist Mr. George Clooney accuses South Sudan’s leaders of profiting from war- we must get more engaged now to help shape the future of this country.

“They’re stealing the money to fund their militias to attack and kill one another, we can either take action or we can spend the next decade mopping up the mess.”

Progress is the result of conscious thought, decision, and action. Believe in that and strives to encourage values such as civil dialogue, tolerance, understanding and respect for competing views not only to narrow differences but also to nurture and sustain the unity of shared purpose” Mr. Chagor said.

President Obama said “I have to also say that Africa’s democratic progress is also at risk when leaders refuse to step aside when their terms end. Now, let me be honest with you — I do not understand this.  When a leader tries to change the rules in the middle of the game just to stay in office, it risks instability and strife. And sometimes you’ll hear leaders say, well, I’m the only person who can hold this nation together. If that’s true, then that leader has failed to truly build their nation.” He added, In South Sudan, the joy of independence has descended into the despair of violence.  I was there at the United Nations when we held up South Sudan as the promise of a new beginning. And neither Mr. Kiir, nor Mr. Machar have shown, so far, any interest in sparing their people from this suffering, or reaching a political solution”

The international community must refuse to compromise with old leadership and support a new leader in South Sudan. Rejecting the old guard could mean aligning with South Sudan people, a matter of principle also that’s the very definition of leadership.
