Terena M. Burkey is an established Certified Wound Specialist and Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. She has 26 years of Registered Nurse experience. She has a special expertise in wound care, legal nursing, geriatrics, medical/surgical nursing, home health, outpatient medical specialities, dialysis, supervision, quality assurance, care plan coordination, infection control,and transfer coordination. She is currently retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
Terena’s acclaimed career in nursing began in 1991, when she graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from East Tennessee State University. Since graduating, she has completed a number of advanced training courses and is also a Certified Wound Specialist through the American Board of Wound Management and a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant through the Vickie Milazzo Institute. To stay current with the latest advances and developments in Legal Nurse Consulting, Terena remains a distinguished member of the National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.
For her excellence in Wound Care, Terena is the recipient of the Veterans Administration 2011 Everyday Hero Award and a recipient of the 2012 Office of Nursing Services Innovations Group Award for submission entitled “Striving For Zero Avoidable Pressure Ulcers: An Interprofessional Commitment to Achieving & Sustaining Excellence.”She has dedicated her life to providing high quality care to her patients, and attributes her success to working with interdisciplinary groups of healthcare professionals and to the support of those around her. Terena continues to learn and collaborates to make the best plan of care for her patients.
