William E. After an internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, he completed an Ophthalmology residency at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. Thereafter, Dr. Whitson undertook his fellowship training in Cornea and External Disease at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Dr. Whitson is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and with his wealth of experience to call upon he diagnoses and treats a wide range of conditions. He is renowned across Indiana and beyond as an expert in cataract surgery and in refractive surgery, and he has performed more than 10,000 LASIK and laser vision procedures and more than 12,000 Intraocular Lens Implant procedures. Dr. Whitson is also noted for his participation in a number of cutting edge research projects, including research into the use of excimer lasers.
Dr. Whitson has won multiple awards throughout his distinguished career, including being named Ophthalmologist of the Year by the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology, and as well as authoring numerous medical papers and book chapters, he has presented talks across the United States. He has been been awarded the coveted title of Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and his expertise and dedication makes Dr. William E. Whitson a very worthy winner of a 2017 Top Doctor Award.
