His life in medicine began in 1975, when he graduated from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri. After an internship at Los Angeles County General Medical Center, he completed a residency at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Hurwitz then completed a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Hurwitz is dual board certified in Pediatrics and in Allergy and Immunology, and he treats a wide range of conditions for patients of all ages. Conditions treated by him include asthma, acute sinusitis, skin infections, food allergies, hepatitis A, B and C, parvovirus, and influenza. He also provides a full range of allergy testing services, including food sensitivity testing.
