Watson III is a highly respected physician currently serving patients within AMS Cardiology in Abington, Pennsylvania, and as Chief of Cardiology and Co-Director of the Comprehensive Heart Failure program at Abington-Jefferson Health, where he has been a Senior Associate in Medicine since 1987. Moreover, he also serves as President of the Heart Group of Abington and Ex-Officio of the Abington Cardiovascular Management LLC. Featuring over three decades of experience in his field, Dr. Watson III has a special expertise in all facets of his work. Recently, he has been Appointed as the Co-Director of the Jefferson Enterprise Cardiovascular Council which will oversee the collaborative integration of this 14 hospital system. This will require the understanding of our principles of patient access, improved communication, and positive outcomes from our population that we serve.
Dr. Watson III’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1982, when he graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky. Upon earning his Medical Degree, he completed a residency at Saint Louis University in Missouri, before undertaking his Cardiology fellowship at Hahnemann University in Pennsylvania. Dr. Watson III is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and has earned the coveted title of Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. To stay current with the latest advances in his field, he remains a distinguished member of the American Medical Association, the Heart Failure Society of America, and the American Society of Echocardiography.
Over the years, Dr. Watson III has received numerous awards and recognitions, including a Golden Apple Teaching Award and a Partners in Excellence Award from Abington Memorial Hospital. Moreover, he was voted among America’s Top Physicians by the Consumers’ Research Council of America in 2003 and was named Man of the Year by the American Biographical Institute in 2005. In 2007 he was instrumental in the development of the Comprehensive Heart Failure program at Abington which has led to improvement in the disease state management of this condition. He is involved with many clinical trials involving interventional cardiology and heart failure, and attributes his success to his family, excellent mentors, his internal drive and commitment, and putting his patients and family first in his career. In his free time, Dr. Watson III enjoys playing golf and traveling.
