F&P Georgia has reached another safety milestone, this time completing ten million hours with no lost time accidents. The company plans to celebrate the accomplishments with an associate family cookout and event on April 22nd.
Bruce Critchlow, a Senior Manager with F&P Georgia says, “We could not have achieved this milestone without the complete dedication of our associates from top management to production worker.” Critchlow explained that F&P has a strong associate based safety committee working with management to ensure that a safe work environment is maintained and continuously improved.
The company opened in 2001 with 70 employees and has undergone a few expansions. Today, they employ over 550 associates. “As we continue to see growth in manufacturing throughout the state, we congratulate companies like F&P Georgia for making workforce development a priority as part of their expansion,” said Ben Hames, Deputy Commissioner, Georgia Department of Economic Development. “We are excited about the growth of F&P Georgia and look forward to training a strong manufacturing workforce to meet current and future business needs.”
At its opening in 2001, there was a lack of a properly trained workforce. Since then, the company and its associates have matured now and programs are in place to train people at local trade schools.
Pete McDonald, President, Georgia Northwestern Technical College, was a member of the initial project study team from the college and Georgia Quick Start that traveled to the F&P Ohio plant and the Canadian plant to develop the training plans and objectives for the new plant in Georgia back in 2001.
“F&P Georgia has always considered the safety of associates to be a top priority. In every training project provided to the company by Georgia Quick Start, every associate has completed multiple sessions focused on operating safety,” said Mr. McDonald. “The accomplishment of 10 million man hours of operation without a lost time injury by F&P Georgia is a testimony to the company commitment to employee safety and the safety training provided by the Technical College System of Georgia.”
The milestone is also a great benefit to the local business environment in Rome and Floyd County. “We are so impressed that F&P Georgia has reached the ten million hours with no accident milestone – a rarity in manufacturing,” said Rome-Floyd Chamber President and CEO Al Hodge. “All of us in Rome are proud that F&P Georgia is here and continues with its safety, quality and excellent production,” he continued. “Yuichi Fukuda is a true friend, and this plant’s growth from 70 in the first year to over 550 employee associates today is further reflective of his leadership and to the solid business environment in Floyd County.”
The Rome, GA based manufacturing company is a subsidiary of F-Tech Inc., based in Japan. F&P Georgia manufactures parts for the Honda Odyssey, Pilot, Accord, the Honda/Acura MDX and other automakers. They are located in the Floyd County Industrial Park off US Highway 27.
