Fibromyalgia caregiver’s YouTube video, Change.org petition go global

John Obenchain, husband of a fibromyalgia sufferer, is using a YouTube video and Change.org petition to plea to the medical community to create change

John Obenchain voiced his frustrations about life with fibromyalgia in a two minute video released Tuesday, June 19. While Obenchain’s health is in perfect condition, his wife Sandra has been living with fibromyalgia for nearly a decade.

Obenchain launched the video on YouTube and a corresponding “Fibro is Real” petition on Change.org, to unite other fibromyalgia caregivers and their families across the world. He hopes to bring greater public awareness of the medical condition and provide a collective voice to a group that has been suffering, in his opinion, for far too long.

Today, after just one week of a grassroots campaign, Obenchain’s petition reached 1,092 signatures, and the YouTube video received over 1,000 views. The campaign is using the hashtag #FibroIsReal to spread the word about fibromyalgia and share the petition on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

“The positive responses and words of encouragement from people all over the world are inspiring to me and my family,” Obenchain says. “We need to keep fighting and keep connecting with everyone affected by fibromyalgia. Together, we can make a difference.”

In the two minute video, the concerned husband shares how fibromyalgia has taken nearly everything from his wife, yet his family remains intact and they are fighting for change together.  He appeals to like-minded families in the hope they will join him on this noble cause.

In the video, he admits that he cannot accomplish the mission without the support of millions of others whose lives have also been touched by fibromyalgia.

Recently, Obenchain created an online fibromyalgia support group called The Alliance Against All Fibromyalgias (AAAFMS, http://www.aaafms.com) for those living with fibromyalgia, their caregivers and family. He hopes that his Alliance Against All Fibromyalgias and the “Fibro is Real” petition will give hope to those who suffer by paving the way for an effective treatment and the eventual cure of fibromyalgia.
