ABCMonday Night 8:00-11:00 p.m. (8.2 million and 2.2/6 in AD18-49):

For the 2nd week in a row, ABC finished as Monday’s most-watched network overall and ranked No. 1 with Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).  Growing week to week in Adults 18-49 (+5%), the Net ran in a virtual tie for No. 1 on the night, pacing within 1-tenth of a rating point and tied in share with Fox and its 2-hour “Sleepy Hollow” finale (2.2/6 vs. 2.3/6).  ABC’s “Castle” was Monday’s most-watched drama (8.9 million), outdrawing NBC’s “Blacklist” (8.7 million) and Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” closer (6.9 million).

“The Bachelor” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 7.8 million and 2.3/6 in AD18-49):

From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Bachelor” once again dominated its unscripted competition in the 2-hour time period, beating NBC’s back to back episodes of “Hollywood Game Night” by 3.3 million viewers (7.8 million vs. 4.5 million) and by 64% in Adults 18-49 (2.3/6 vs. 1.4/4). For the 2nd straight week, the ABC unscripted series won its slot in Adults 18-34 and was Monday’s No. 1 TV show in key Women (W18-34/W18-49).  “The Bachelor” gained 1-tenth of a rating point from its week-ago Fast Affiliate Adult 18-49 rating.

“Castle” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 8.9 million and 2.0/6 in AD18-49):

ABC’s “Castle” was the most-watched TV show overall in its time period and nearly caught NBC’s “Blacklist” in Adults 18-49 with its closest-ever finish (2.0/6 vs. 2.3/6).  In addition, the ABC drama also held the No. 1 position in the hour over “Blacklist” in Adults 18-34 and across all key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).  “Castle” was up for the 2nd consecutive week in Adults 18-49 (+5%) to deliver its highest number since November – since 11/25/13.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 49% currently, from 47% at the same point in 2013. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
