Marvels of the ReefThe Florida Museum of Photographic Arts (FMoPA) is pleased to announce the opening of Marvels of the Reef on September 4, 2015.

In Marvels of the Reef, a collection featuring photographers whose work has appeared in National Geographic, images celebrate the beauties and mysteries of the sea while also underscoring the importance of environmental protection and environmental studies. FMoPA and The Florida Aquarium have partnered together to produce and promote the exhibition which runs through December 30th.

“We are excited to work with The Florida Aquarium to share these photographs with our respective communities and beyond. The value of these photographs lies not only in their beauty but also in the important message of environmental conservation they communicate,” said Zora Carrier, FMoPA’s Executive Director.

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is one of fewer than ten museums in the United States dedicated exclusively to photography and one of two such museums in the state of Florida. FMoPA seeks to enrich the lives of the citizens of the Tampa Bay area by providing rare, specialized access to the wonders of photography not only as an aesthetic form but also as a multi-faceted historical and contemporary document of our world through exhibitions, education, outreach programs, and local collaborations.

A portion of the exhibition’s proceeds will go towards The Florida Aquarium’s conservation efforts including the rescue and rehabilitation of animals.

“It’s an honor to partner with the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts on this exhibit,” said Thom Stork, president and CEO of The Florida Aquarium. “Through this exhibit, our community has yet another way to revel in the beauty of the ocean and hopefully become inspired to protect this very important asset.”

Refreshments and flatbreads will be graciously provided by local favorite, Pané Rustica.

Admission: Free for members, $10 for not-yet members.
