Mike DukartWhen Mike Dukart started the Mineral Owners Company (MOC), his biggest challenge was finding like-minded individuals he could count on to do the right thing.

“When it comes to the potential monetary gains on the scale we’re talking about, three things consistently threaten to derail the entire venture,” says Dukart, founder of the nonprofit organization. “Greed, arrogance and corruption have a way of quietly immerging in an organization as it becomes more and more successful.”

For landowners along the Williston Basin, an area located in eastern Montana, western North Dakota, South Dakota, and southern Saskatchewan known for its rich deposits of petroleum, Dukart has dedicated years to assembling the best possible team.

“I’ve spent the last two years weeding out potential partners in order to put together a team that is onboard with my vision,” says Dukart. “Fortunately, I feel that I have met some of the most honest and humble people in the oil and gas industry who are also dedicated to helping the people of this country lead better lives.”

Designed to protect landowner’s interests while making energy development beneficial for all parties, the MOC was created to make energy development more efficient while keeping the best interests of all parties at the forefront.

The non-profit energy organization strives to make a lasting influence on the local and national economies by promoting energy independence and maintaining a positive environmental impact.

A key piece in the future of U.S. energy production, the Williston Basin, has been heralded as one of the largest oil and natural gas reserves in the world. Known for its Bakken Shale formation, the area features high potential shale layers located deep below the earth’s water table.

In forming the MOC, Dukart has assembled a diverse team with an extensive background in energy production. From advisors with lengthy family histories in oil production and highly successful ranchers turned energy entrepreneurs to legal experts and national and regional political experts, Dukart feels he finally has the team he needs to allow the U.S. to no longer be an energy dependent nation.

“It’s taken a long time but I finally feel that I have the team around me to accomplish everything I’ve dreamed of,” says Dukart. “We have a great team, with the right experience and most importantly, the best of intentions.”

An entrepreneur and former U.S. Marine, Dukart has spent more than two decades making his living off his love for the outdoors. The founder of the successful hunting call company Illusion Systems, Dukart has been connected to the land since he retired from the Marine Corps.

Dukart’s wide ranging interests are also featuring in his project, “Serving America.” Produced in Hollywood, the documentary is designed to educate Americans on energy independence, immigration, national security and other important issues affecting the country in today’s political climate.
