www.visitstpeteclearwater A stellar field of golf’s elite is poised and ready to play on one of the most competitive courses in the country: the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club. Known for its treelined fairways and rolling terrain, the famed course will play host to the PGA Tour’s Tampa Bay Championship presented by EverBank, beginning Thursday through Sunday.

The 7,300yard Copperhead Course, which has been called one of the most difficult courses on the tour by pros like Paul Azinger and Curtis Strange, is a lengthy challenge for even the longest hitters. And it’s this blend of artistry and skill that lures the world’s best to make it a must play on the PGA Tour.

In contention for the 2013 Tampa Bay Championship’s $5.5 million purse is an impressive lineup including defending champion, Luke Donald, who’s ranked third in the Official World Golf Ranking, and Adam Scott, who just finished third at the WGCCadillac Championship in Miami and is ranked No. 7 in the world.

In all, 50 of the top 75 players from the 2012 PGA TOUR Official Money List are in the field, including past tournament winners, Gary Woodland (2011), Jim Furyk (2010), Retief Goosen (2009 & 2003), Sean O’Hair (2008), Carl Pettersson (2005), Vijay Singh (2004) and K.J. Choi, who won twice on the Copperhead Course in 2002 and 2006.

Crowd favorites John Daly and Geoff Ogilvy will also compete this year.

Tournament play begins Thursday morning with gates opening at 7 a.m. The action will be broadcast from 36 p.m. Thursday and Friday on the Golf Channel. Saturday’s coverage can be seen from 13 p.m. on the Golf Channel and 36 p.m. on NBC. Sunday’s Final Round will be live on the Golf Channel from 13 p.m. and 36 p.m. on NBC.

Ticket packages for fans, families, golfers and groups range from $30 to $225 and can be purchased here, including tickets for the Hooters Owl’s Nest at the 17th hole. Free admission will be granted to all active and retired military, as well as children under the age of 15.

Beautiful weather is expected all weekend, with classic St. Pete/Clearwater area springtime temperatures in the midseventies and a barrage of sunshine. The annual PGA Tour event has been hosted by The Copperheads for more than three decades.
