Medical alert technology leader, ScanMed QR announced the release of their groundbreaking emergency medical alert, ScanMed QR CardSuite™ product – an industry first.

With a ScanMed QR Card, emergency responders or medical personnel can now access the owner’s vital medical information – such as drug allergies, existing medical conditions, emergency contact information, and more – and retrieve it instantly, when seconds matter most.

Prior to ScanMed QR’s release, medical alert products using Quick Response (QR) images (often called ‘QR codes’) relied on the time-consumptive process of the owner first creating a profile, then listing all relevant information in order to generate their unique QR code. This QR image can then be scanned using a smartphone or barcode scanner to retrieve or view information about a product or individual within seconds.

Because of this lengthy process, using QR technology as a medical alert had not been a viable solution. But ScanMed QR’s ability to enter, edit and change information dynamically (using a personal computer or smartphone) offers the most advanced solution to date; one that ensures responders and medical staff have the most accurate information available instantly.

ScanMed QR’s proprietary software allows authorized persons to create and produce unlimited profiles that simply need an activation code to build a medical alert profile branded to their own, unique, QR-branded identification card, zipper tag and key tag.

“It’s simple — we said that we were going to find a way to change a limited technology and we did,” said ScanMed QR LLC President and co-founder, Eric Richardson. “Besides the fact that we were the first to offer QR medical alert technology, shortly after our launch we realized that we were limited to relying on someone actually coming to our website to create, edit and fill out a profile before their unique QR image was created,” Richardson explained. “But after describing what ScanMed QR does and how it works, we had hundreds of people tell us, ‘I have to get this for my (mother, father, aunt, etc.)’. But life often gets in the way of the best intentions, and they’d forget or it would slip their mind. So we didn’t have a product that they could buy right then – it depended on someone going to our site and following through.”

Richardson originally created a version of ScanMed QR for his mother – who lives with Type 1 diabetes and epilepsy – to help convey critical medical information to emergency responders. As his idea caught on, Richardson realized the impact his concept could have in the consumer market and launched ScanMed QR to replicate the platform for mass consumption.

“Flipping the course of QR technology has given us the ability to create and print an unlimited number of our CardSuite™ sets with individual profiles and their associated QR code,” said Victoria Bill, Vice President, co-founder and Richardson’s mother.

“We can market them to national pharmacy chains, as well as make them available without limitations to any organization that hosts running, biking, or other types of fundraising events,” she said. “We’ve removed the barriers so that anyone now has the ability to create, list, change or update important emergency information for family and friends that could be affected by a potentially debilitating health condition or those with an active lifestyle that might require medical attention in the event of an emergency.”

About ScanMed QR
