July 2, 2007 - John Henry Williams spent his life chasing the dream of hitting like his legendary dad.  And he succeeded before he died, his hitting coach reveals for the first time on the 5th anniversary of the legend’s death.

“John Henry achieved his dream,” says his hitting coach Mike Huber.  “Most people don’t know that and I think it’s time they did.”

At age 35, John Henry Williams attempted to play at the pro level when many players begin hanging up their bats and gloves, Huber says Williams refused to stop playing baseball until he could hit like his dad.  But with a batting average of .023 (1 for 42), the fledgling ballplayer barely cut it in the SouthEast Pro League.

That all changed when he found Huber.

“I taught him how to hit,” says Huber.

It was like magic, Huber remembers.  John Henry Williams went from barely hitting the ball to a very respectable .296 batting average in his last month of baseball.  He was even named player of the month in August 2003.

Soon after, Huber says, Williams died from leukemia.

The story of how Huber taught John Henry the magic swing has already captured the attention of Hollywood producers.  The story is told in the new e-book, "Tapping into the Spirit of Ted Williams.”

Huber says he has many success stories.

“I formed a training system based off the muscle movements and swing planes of hitters like Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth,” says Huber.  “Today’s players, such as Barry Bonds, Derrick Lee, Bobby Abreu, and Jim Edmonds are examples of present day stars that possess similar swing traits as yesteryear’s superstar hitters.”

Huber says he can teach anyone the swing, even a reporter.

“I can infuse the swing of Ted Williams into them in 30 minutes or less,” says Huber in his challenge. “I can have them hit the ball farther and consistently harder than they ever have before.”
