Brandon, Fla. - Brandon-based Florida Contractor Insurance (FCI), which specializes in insuring firms in the construction industry, and Comegys Insurance Corner in St. Petersburg, a full service insurance agency serving Tampa Bay since 1939, will merge, both companies announced today.

The merger is effective Sept. 1, 2007.

Florida Contractor Insurance was founded by Mark Sierra in 2000 and was originally named Choices Insurance & Financial Services.  During the past seven years, FCI has become a pioneer in the specialized practice of insuring firms in the construction industry. FCI has played an integral role in the creation and implementation of many construction industry programs.

"I am very proud of the accomplishments of our employees and clients in creating a terrific agency to serve the construction industry," says Sierra.  "We look forward to being an integral component of Comegys continuing success. We are most looking forward to working with the resources of one of this country's finest agencies and terrific management and staff. "

Comegys Insurance Corner was founded in 1939 and was ranked by Insurance Journal in April as one of the top 100 Property and Casualty Insurance Agencies in the United States.

Comegys is run by Mark Berset, CEO, and Linda Comegys-Berset, President. Mark Berset also serves as Chairman of the Board of Bayfront Medical Foundation and on the Board of Trustees of Bayfront Medical Center.

"Florida Contractor Insurance has become a premier part of the construction insurance community and makes this merger a great fit for Comegys, our employees, and most of all the clients for both agencies," Berset says.

Comegys will create a new Construction Insurance Division which will be run by Sierra and the former FCI employees.

The Florida Contractor Insurance building will be sold and employees from both firms will work out of Comegys' office space in  Bayfront Towers on One Beach Drive in St. Petersburg.
