Outraged dentist, Dr. Robert Bates, speaks out

(PR NewsChannel) / February 9, 2016 / CLARENCE, N.Y.

Dentist Robert Bates is pleading for denture wearers to stop using Super Glue and Gorilla Glue to perform home repairs on their old broken dentures.

“It’s outrageous and I see it all too often” says Dr. Bates, a dentist from Clarence, NY, a suburb of Buffalo.

Patients will use toxic glue to fix a crack or a tooth that fell out of their old denture. Rob Bates, however, says “Do not do that.”

First off, people need to realize that super glue and gorilla glue are toxic, so who knows what harm it could be causing from an overall health standpoint.  Secondly, in the case of a fractured denture, the glue alters the surface of the denture at the edge of the break, which often times won’t allow dentists the ability to line up the 2 pieces exactly as they were before.  So there is no way to guarantee that the denture will ever be put back together exactly as it was.

“Just leave it alone. Do not glue it or use a do it yourself kit from the drug store,” says Rob Bates. “You’re doing more harm than good, but if you just leave it alone and bring it to a qualified dentist, they can usually get it back to normal again.”

Dr. Bates recommends seeing your dentist regularly to prevent problems with teeth, gums and dentures.
