Hurricane season is here and the City of Tampa’s Alert Tampa service provides timely emergency notifications during a hurricane or other severe weather events. This service particularly benefits our elderly and disabled citizens allowing them to receive emergency notifications and informational alerts. Those who sign up will receive notification via home phone, cell phone, or email giving them time to prepare for approaching severe weather and receive up-to-the-minute information regarding flooding, street closures, or emergency preparations.

Special Needs Shelters are another service the City of Tampa provides elderly and disabled residents during emergencies. Residents who would like to participate fill out a shelter evaluation form (links below) before an emergency. Residents include any important medical issues or any type of special assistance they require to ensure that their needs are met. The City of Tampa’s Office of Emergency Management also offers further information and steps on how to prepare for various types of emergency situations on their website http://www.tampagov.net/emergency-management.
