Sony Music stars win big at the 2014 Billboard Latin Music Awards

Sony Music LatinSony Music artists rose to the occasion, by winning an outstanding number of awards and energizing the 2014 Billboard Latin Music Awards gala, broadcast live by Telemundo from the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Florida.

It was a spectacular evening with an all-star lineup, including Marc Anthony, who delighted the audience with “Vivir mi vida” and his most recent hit “Cambio de Piel,” and was the big winner of the evening winning the awards for “Artist of the Year,” “Hot Latin Song of the Year,” “Airplay Song of the Year,” “Digital Song of the Year,” “Top Latin Album of the Year,” “Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Male,” “Latin Pop Song of the Year,” “Tropical Song of the Year,” “Tropical Album of the Year” and “Tropical Albums Artist of the Year, Solo.” 

No less spectacular was Ricky Martin, who raised the adrenaline level in the auditorium with “Vida,” the “SuperSong” competition winning song. His style, elegance and energetic performance thrilled the audience.

Puerto Rican icon Chayanne came back strong performing to the beat of the much-awaited world debut of his single “Humanos A Marte,” a tantalizing preview of his new album to be released in the summer 2014.

Colombian singer Carlos Vives won the “Spirit of Hope Award” for his humanitarian work and singer-songwriter Franco De Vita earned this year’s “Billboard Hall of Fame Award” for his long musical trajectory, followed by a heart-felt medley of his big hits, including “Un Buen Perdedor,” “Te Amo” and “No Basta.”

Prince Royce energized the audience with his ballad “Nada”, followed by a Portuguese version of his single “Darte un beso” with Michel Teló. The bachata icon also picked up four awards including “Hot Latin Song Artist of the Year, Male,” “Streaming Song of the Year” and “Tropical Songs Artist of the Year, Solo.”

Bachata heartthrob Romeo Santos also went home with three awards “Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Event,” “Producer of the Year” and “Songwriter of the Year”.

“We are proud of each and every one of our artists. Their performances were impeccable and they deserve the awards they received,” said Afo Verde, Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Latin America, Spain and Portugal. “It was an unforgettable night for Sony Music Latin’s family. Congratulations to all of our fantastic artists,” he concluded.

Another memorable moment was when urban superstar Wisin opened the ceremony with Sean Paul to sing “Baby Danger,” while renowned Mexican pop star Cristian Castro created his own kind of vibe with “Déjame Conmigo,” the first single from his most recent production, “En Primera Fila – Día 2”.

Other performers who did not miss this evening were Gilberto Santa Rosa and Natalia Jiménez, who walked to the stage to present an award. 

Luminaries such as Shakira, Gerardo Ortiz and Thalia also took home important awards at the 2014 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

“We are very pleased with tonight’s awards and are proud of our incredibly talented artist and their dedicated teams,” said Nir Seroussi, president of Sony Music US Latin, after the awards’ presentation.

The record label Sony Music, was also a big winner after garnering multiple awards for: “Hot Latin Songs Imprint of the Year,” “Airplay Imprint of the Year,” “Latin Pop Airplay Imprint of the Year,” “Latin Pop Airplay Label of the Year,” “Tropical Songs Airplay Label of the Yea,” “Tropical Songs Airplay Imprint of the Year,” “Tropical Albums Label of the Year” and “Tropical Albums Imprint of the Year.”
