Tampa dermatologist Forman dermatology and skin cancer instituteWhen it comes to groundbreaking medical treatments for skin conditions, Tampa dermatologist Dr. Seth Forman has always been one of the leaders of the pack. This is most evident when he’s treating patients suffering from hidradenitis suppurativa.

Commonly approached as if it were a cyst or an infection, hidradenitis suppurativa can be difficult to treat. Dr. Forman, however, utilizes an aggressive method against the skin condition with the innovative use of TNF-alpha antibodies.

“Hidradenitis suppurativa is an inflammatory condition,” says Tampa dermatologist Dr. Seth Forman. “TNF-alpha antibodies, such as Humira, are effective in treating chronic inflammatory diseases. Treatment for hidradenitis suppurativa doesn’t have to be painful or leave scars.”

Not all cases of the chronic inflammatory skin condition require treatments as aggressive as TNF-alpha antibodies. In some cases, Forman has turned to antibiotics and surgery to treat hidradenitis suppurativa.

A chronic skin disorder, hidradenitis suppurativa causes boil-like lumps under the skin that are often inflamed and painful. When the lumps break open, they can cause abscesses that drain fluid and pus and can scar as they heal. Although they can develop in other areas of the body, lumps from hidradenitis suppurativa are usually found in the armpits and groin area.

“As a treatment for hidradenitis suppurativa, TNF-alpha antibodies keep the skin condition under control and unable to create any further problems,” says the Tampa dermatologist.

Appearing after puberty hits, hidradenitis suppurativa not only causes chronic pain and self-consciousness, but severe infections can result in restricted movement due to built-up scar tissue. Squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer, can also be a complication of the skin disorder.

In addition to helping patients with chronic skin disorders like hidradenitis suppurativa, Forman works with individuals facing everything from skin cancer to psoriasis and vitiligo. The Tampa dermatologist uses groundbreaking treatments for skin cancers and skin disorders, making him a top dermatologist in the area.
