PRNCU_logoTampa-based global newswire PR NewsChannel today announced the expansion of their unique public-private partnership program called PRNC U with the addition of Philadelphia University.

The program will create a new way for public relations students to gain real-world experience by allowing them to leverage PR NewsChannel to distribute the press releases they write and see the experience turn from theory to reality.

“One of the biggest advantages a student can have when leaving college is real-world experience,” says Glenn Selig (@glennselig), president and CEO of Selig Multimedia, Inc., which owns and operates PR NewsChannel. “We hope PR NewsChannel will help Philadelphia University create a new dimension of learning for public relations majors by provide a unique and authentic learning experience.”

This fall, PR NewsChannel will integrate into the  public relations curriculum. Students will take press releases they write and distribute them through the newswire. Professors will then be able to see how effectively students did their assignments as the student-written press releases show up in search engines and possibly catch the attention of media.

“Part of the goal of the Professional Communications major is to ensure that students gain real-life experience and skills that can transfer into the workplace,” said Jen Cohen Crompton, an adjunct professor of Professional Communications at Philadelphia University. “As part of our ‘PR and Media Writing’ course, it was essential to provide the students with an opportunity to write and distribute an authentic news release, then evaluate the performance. This is a real-life skill they need to know as they break into the industry.”

The program was launched in 2012 as a pilot program with the University of South Florida. The Tampa-based public university became the first to utilize this distinctive program within its public relations courses when it was introduced as part of the curriculum last month with plans to spread the program to other universities in the coming year.
