“Snake and Mongoose” will makes it’s final theatrical appearance at the Century Orleans 18 at the Orleans Casino at 7:00 p.m.

“Fast Jack” Beckman, the driver of the Odyssey Battery/Valvoline/ MTS Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car for Don Schumacher Racing, and who beat his rival and teammate, Ron Capps, who drives the NAPA Auto Parts/Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car, by two points last November to take the NHRA 2012 Funny Car Championship, will be joining Capps at the Saturday night screening of Snake and Mongoose at the Century Orleans 18 at the Orleans Casino at 7:00 p.m.

“Snake and Mongoose” tells the true story of Don “the Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “the Mongoose” McEwen, the two greatest rivals in drag racing history, who revolutionized sports marketing and put drag racing into the mainstream when they acquired a sponsorship deal from Mattel’s then new Hot Wheels division in the late 60’s.

“The rivalry between Don Schumacher Racing teammates, Capps and Beckman is eerily similar to the Snake and Mongoose rivalry,” said Robin Broidy, producer of the film.  ”Capps worked and drove for Prudhomme for many years and Beckman, like many other drivers, has sought out McEwen frequently over the years for his expertise and advice on how to win NHRA events and they have become good friends.”

Beckman particularly relates to McEwen because in 2004 he endured a difficult struggle with leukemia, a disease that affected McEwen’s son, Jamie, in the late 1970s.  Beckman, now in remission for eight years, is an advocate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as was McEwen.

“Tom McEwen is definitely one of my heroes.  NHRA issues permanent competition numbers to competitors. Goose is 713, Snake 712, so I chose 711 to be right next to two of the biggest legends this sport has ever had,” said Beckman. “Like many kids who grew up in the 70’s in Southern California, the hot rod scene was vibrant and highly influential. These two were iconic on and off the track, and the partnership with Hot Wheels made them household names and gave us children an attachment to the sport that helped nurture a passion that would one day carry many of us to the track.”

The film opens at the Century Orleans 18 theater at the Orleans Resort on Friday, October 25 and the first 400 to see the film will be able to get a copy of the film’s poster either in 11″x17″ or “8×11″ size.
