When you think about it, the only female figure on the chess board is the queen, and she is the most valuable piece.   Yet the irony is that about 90% of chess players are male.  This is true even for kids, and the Girls Inc Spring Break Camp is about to change that!  Camp will provide a positive opportunity for girls to benefit from learning the game and will celebrate them playing chess.

Chess has many benefits for growing young minds and provides a powerful learning tool.  Chess Camp is designed to cultivate the type of learning that helps girls in school, such as grasping math concepts more quickly and improving reading comprehension. Chess is a great learning tool and camp will help girls develop their reading comprehension, math skills, decision-making ability, goal setting and good sportsmanship.  The ability to make good decisions will benefit girls throughout their lives!

Plus, chess is fun!  Experts from The Chess Center will teach chess daily, and the week will culminate with a tournament and prizes.   No prior experience is needed.  Spring Break Camp highlights also include a great field trip, sports, arts & crafts and reading.  Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks are included.  Please visit our website www.girlsinc-pinellas.org for more information or call 727 544-6230.

For over half a century, Girls Inc has had a profound and life-changing impact for thousands of girls in Pinellas County and is known as the “go-to place” for growing great girls.   The Girls Inc After-School Academy and Operation SMART Summer Camp help today’s girls become tomorrow’s leaders by helping them develop the tools to build, and the vision to plan their very best futures.
