Following two days of hearings on Capitol Hill in which the leader of U.S. forces in Afghanistan informed House and Senate leadership that Afghanistan is at a critical juncture and that Afghan forces need to be strengthened in order to meet a myriad challenges, General Jamal Abdul‐Nasir Sediqi, Deputy Minister of Interior for Public Protection Forces and Security in Afghanistan, has been expended an invitation to come to the United States to lead a round table discussion on the future of a free and democratic Afghanistan 2016 and beyond.

Afghanistan has been dominating world news.

Army Gen. John F. Campbell testified before the House Armed Services Committee earlier this week that Afghanistan is dealing with very serious threats, including the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

“If we think that this is going to be cleared up in a couple of years, we’re fooling ourselves,” Gen. Campbell said before the House Armed Services Committee. “We have to position ourselves to ensure that we can do everything we can to mitigate this impact.”

Last Saturday, 12 members of the Doctors Without Borders staff as well as 10 patients were killed during a U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan that hit a hospital. Earlier this week, U.S. President Barack Obama characterized the bombing as a “mistake.”

Mr. Obama called Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to express his condolences for the Aghan civilians killed during the airstrike.

During the round table scheduled for later this month, General Sediqi will share perspectives on the key challenges and needs facing Afghanistan as foreign troops prepare to depart Afghanistan, including the needs of the security services and areas in need of continued support from the US and international community.

During his expected visit to the U.S., at the request of the U.S., he also has additional meetings scheduled to discuss solutions for the future of Afghanistan security in his role as public protection force.
