Shai Kremer, World Trade Center: Concrete Abstract #4, 2001-2003.

Please join us from 6-8 p.m. for the opening of World Trade Center: Concrete Abstract, an exhibition by conceptual photographer Shai Kremer documenting the destruction and the reconstruction of the Twin Towers in New York City. The exhibition runs through September 16, 2016.

Featuring 10 images from the Concrete Abstract series, Kremer’s images evoke both an individual and universal response to the devastation and reform of the World Trade Towers following the event of September 11, 2001.   This series functions as a recreation of site, a recollection of tragedy, and a presentation of healing as a nation.  Kremer describes his Concrete Abstract series as a means to “pay homage to America, to New York, to their trauma and their recovery.”  The collection of overlaid images of a once shattered sight seeks to represent a fresh start and ongoing therapeutic process for New York City.

“Through Shai Kremer’s World Trade Center: Concrete Abstract, we seek to both sustain the outlooks of remembrance for the devastation which affected the United States as well as support the reverence for the strength of the nation following the attacks” says Zora Carrier, FMoPA’s Executive Director.

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is one of fewer than ten museums in the United States dedicated exclusively to photography and one of two such museums in the state of Florida. FMoPA seeks to enrich the lives of the citizens of the Tampa Bay area by providing rare, specialized access to the wonders of photography not only as an aesthetic form but also as a multi-faceted historical and contemporary document of our world through exhibitions, education, outreach programs, and local collaborations.

Admission is free for members and students. Suggested donation for not-yet members: $10.00

Refreshments will be served.
