GUARDaHEART July 4thGUARDaHEART Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting heart disease through awareness, detection, and prevention, helped the city of Huntington Beach get into the fourth of July spirit this year at the 112th annual 4th of July parade. The event paid tribute to the city’s veterans, and to the spirit of the holiday. Present were veterans from WWII to the present day, celebrating 240 years of freedom and independence. Special thanks were given by the crown to Mr. Larry Colletti, a 100 year old WWII veteran who had never been shown such gratitude for his service.

“GUARDaHEART is particularly focused on heart health for our active military and veterans,” commented,” Gina McLane, Corporate Engagement Director/Volunteer for GUARDaHEART “A study published by the American Journal of Public Health showed those with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) had a nearly 50% greater risk of developing heart failure over about a seven-year follow-up period. Most experts believe PTSD and chronic anxiety can damage the heart over time. GUARDaHEART is dedicated to being a resource for the men and women who have served our country to ensure they are heart-healthy.”

Heart disease remains a leading killer in the United States, and according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, veterans are at higher risk of developing new cases of heart disease than non-veterans. GUARDaHEART made resources and support available to the veterans in attendance at the parade on Monday. The event supports the Long Beach VA Healthcare system, to help provide relief and services to veterans and their families in their moments of need.

Heart disease places a burden on the healthcare system, and the family unit, but it can be stopped. If you would like to help GUARDaHEART fight heart disease, volunteer or contribute at www.guardaheart.org, or email for more information on how you can join the effort.

GUARDaHEART partner Cookie Connection, also participated in the event. For information on sponsorship or other partnership opportunities, contact .
