Leaping to new heights: the story of dancer Paige Fraser

Paige’s story is one of vision and strength, a story that is both inspiring to all who hear it. She began her training at Ballet Atlantic Academy. She went on to study at Professional Performing Arts High School and attended ABT, DTH, Jacobs Pillow and Julliard Summer Intensives on scholarship. Ms. Fraser attended Dominican University of California/Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet and later went on to graduate from the Fordham University/Ailey BFA program as Cum Laude in 2012. She has been featured in Dance Magazine, Dance Teacher, Essence, Lucky, and Revolution Dancewear and has danced for Nicole Miller’s Fashion Night Out. Ms. Fraser was a guest artist for Deeply Rooted ECS and Ruth Page Civic Ballet production of the Nutcracker. She has performed in Randy Duncan’s highly acclaimed finale for Dance For Life Chicago in 2014 and 2015, Paige appeared in Beyonce’s “Bow Down” 2013 tour opener and in V Magazine’s holiday video featuring top model Chanel Iman.

Overcoming the challenges of Scoliosis and fulfilling her lifelong ambition of dancing professionally, Paige embraces what she has overcome to raise awareness about pursuing dreams and overcoming challenges. Faced with the prospect of surgery at an early age that might have ended her dream of becoming a professional dancer, Paige did what Paige always does – she took the risk and ventured into the less certain territory of seeking chiropractic care as a means of overcoming her physical challenges. This decision turned out to be life changing, as it required she wear a back brace through her high school years as a dancer and regular visits to a chiropractor. Through it all she danced and performed and became, what many felt would be impossible, a professional dancer.

Twelve years after being diagnosed with Scoliosis, Fraser has accomplished the career in dance of which she always dreamed. Paige’s story is one of resilience and strength and courage.  She has traveled across the globe and continues to reach new heights in the world of dance. Paige has taught several classes around the US and Europe. Ms. Fraser was a member of Ailey II for the 2011-2013 seasons under the artistic direction of Sylvia Waters and Troy Powell. She is a founding dancer of Visceral Dance Chicago now in her fourth season with the company. The latest Intel commercial, which aired during the Super Bowl and Grammy’s, has captured attention for this gorgeous and talented dancer bringing more awareness to her story. With interviews in StreetWise Chicago, Amsterdam News, The Jamaican Gleaner, and television interviews such as ABC Chicago, WCIU, and News 12 The Bronx, Paige continues to share her story and her talent about her development as a professional dancer who overcame what seemed to be insurmountable odds.
