Datalogics, in cooperation with StudioRIP, announces the release of the Variable Sized Droplet Screening

(PR NewsChannel) / October 23, 2013 / CHICAGO

DatalogicsDatalogics, in cooperation with StudioRIP, today announces the release of the Variable Sized Droplet Screening, a module capable of handling high-speed digital printing presses that use inkjet printers with variable sized droplet technology. Variable Sized Droplet Screening can be used to enhance the screening capabilities of the Adobe PDF Print Engine, the next-generation rendering platform, optimized for end-to-end print workflows based on Adobe PDF and packaged as a module available through Datalogics.

Variable Sized Droplet screening is an efficient way to achieve fine halftones at high speeds without sacrificing quality. While the current standard of using high resolution and small droplet size (e.g. 1440×1440 dpi @ 3.5 pl) results in high quality but low printing speed, the Variable Sized Droplet Screening SDK uses relatively lower resolution and variable sized droplet (e.g. 720×720 dpi @ 3.5, 7.0 and 12 pl) to produce comparable quality and much higher speeds. Print Service Providers (PSPs), print OEM solution providers, and designers will also be able to specify an unlimited amount of droplet sizes so as to take advantage of future inkjet printing technology as it is developed.

Variable Sized Droplet Screening also includes a viewer app as a testing / debugging tool. This viewer app allows the user to utilize a proofing tool before doing an actual print. Additional Variable Sized Droplet Screening features include:

  • Work with unlimited number of color channels, including special colors
  • Establish a halftone map file for each color channel
  • Accept calibration data for each plane
  • Define the droplet size for Variable Sized Droplet screening
  • Specify the maximum halftone percentage to be used for a given droplet size

Variable Sized Droplet Screening is supported on Windows 32-bit or 64-bit environments.

About Adobe PDF Print Engine: Adobe PDF Print Engine enables integrated, end-to-end PDF workflows for printing graphically rich content, including variable content for personalized publishing. The Adobe PDF Print Engine is a common rendering engine technology, packaged as a software development kit (SDK). Adobe PDF Print Engine uses a native PDF imaging model, eliminating the need to convert PDF documents to PostScript for printing, and processes jobs under the control of jobs specified in the Job Definition Format (JDF).
