Mayor Buckhorn promotes tourism and business during national media tour

Tampa Bay and CompanyAs the destination prepares for the national and international spotlight surrounding the 2012 Republican National Convention (RNC), City of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn is traveling to New York, NY and Washington, D.C. to promote tourism and business opportunities in Tampa Bay.  

The media tour launched today and is a key component of a national public relations effort funded by Hillsborough County, Tampa Bay & Company and a cooperative of local economic development partners to raise positive awareness of the community in the weeks leading up to the RNC.  Participating organizations include the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, Tampa International Airport, Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and the Tampa Convention Center.

During his trip, Mayor Buckhorn will represent the Tampa Bay area in appearances on recognized national media outlets, including live appearances on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” and Bloomberg Radio and TV, and interviews with the Associated Press, The New York Times, The Washington Times, The Wall Street Journal and more.

The national public relations program is just one component of a joint marketing effort developed by Tampa Bay & Company and supported by 10 additional community organizations to capitalize on the RNC.

The comprehensive strategic marketing campaign includes advertising in Southwest Airlines’ and US Airways’ in-flight magazines, as well as national media site visits, client familiarization tours and the management of a Social Media Command Center the week of the convention.

This unprecedented collaboration, led by Tampa Bay & Company, includes the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, the Tampa Bay Partnership, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, Hillsborough County, the Tampa Convention Center, Tampa International Airport, the Tampa Port Authority, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, the Westshore Alliance and the Tampa Downtown Partnership.
