Americans stand up to ‘Home Tax’

(PR NewsChannel) / December 23, 2011 / WASHINGTON

In an incredible show of public outreach and grass roots movement, Americans called their Congressional members about the back door effort to nationalize Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  As if the $147 billion we have spent isn’t enough, now some in Washington are trying to engineer a full takeover of the mortgage market by the government.  The new home tax could be the first step.

Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Liberty News covered this dramatic and potentially damaging home tax.

Earlier this week, the Senate passed a payroll tax extension that contained this provision.  The House has insisted on negotiations, but they also passed the Senate version of the bill for a two month extension for the payroll tax break — with a 10 year home tax provision attached.  Taxes you and I will have to pay when we secure a mortgage.

Countless Americans feel the tax will make it nearly impossible for Congress to restructure and dismantle these troubled entities through private market solutions.  Instead, US taxpayers will become liable for trillions of dollars of housing mortgage guarantees. This will make it tougher to buy or refinance homes.

Americans from across the country are weighing in against this unjust “home tax.” With the House and Senate heading into a major Conference over the payroll tax, Americans need to continue to weigh in and make their concerns known via phone calls and emails to their Members.

As America heads into the Holiday Season, a phone call or email to Members of Congress may be the best gift of all in defeating the “home tax.”
