Foster Me Up

“Foster Me Up” (ISBN 1466216158), a memoir by Rhonda Zimmer, tells the story of her and her twin sister Robin’s journey through the foster care system to a meaningful adult life.

The book describes the Zimmer sisters’ early life in their childhood home, with a mother drawn to religious fanaticism and a father who is so convinced that he is born to lose that the phrase is tattooed on his arm. After enduring domestic violence and increasing alcoholism, the girls are placed in the foster care system while still in their formative years. This book tells the story of their emotional turmoil and the love that kept them together, as well as how they were able to overcome these early experiences to find renewed meaning in life.

“I want readers to understand my story and to know that entering the foster care system doesn’t have to mean the end of life,” says Zimmer. “I want to help others beat the odds and escape what can seem like certain failure.”

The book was written to engage, inform and inspire reflections on living in other people’s homes in the minds of all those affected by being wards of the state. Zimmer sees herself as an advocate for foster care and a living inspiration to others through her example. The memoir is intended for a broad audience of readers interested in learning more about a misunderstood system.

“Foster Me Up” is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
