Tampa Dermatologist brings new technology to Bay area

Dr. Seth Forman uses blu-light treatments to alleviate acne and eliminate pre-cancerous cells.

Patients will love the newest procedure to arrive in the Tampa Bay area, says Dr. Seth Forman. Blu-Light, a therapeutic treatment for acne and pre-cancers, offers a comfortable alternative to the harsh medicines and procedures typically used for those conditions.

“It is part of my commitment to technological advances in dermatology,” says the Tampa dermatologist. “It allows us to treat larger areas in a way that’s more convenient for the patient.”

Blu-Light can help eliminate pre-cancerous cells. During the treatment, the blue light sends energy directly to specific cells that need to be removed. The light destroys cells by depriving them of oxygen. It successfully kills the abnormal cells without damaging healthy tissue.

Acne-sufferers will also be happy to know that Blu-light can be used on people with a more severe acne problem. Patients just sit with their face close to the light for a short period of time, usually about 15 minutes, one or two times a week.

“It is a mild procedure that is performed in-house,” says the Tampa dermatologist. “It is safe and effective for treating moderate to severe acne.”

Blu-Light therapy is covered by Medicare and most insurance carriers for the treatment of pre-cancerous cells. However, it may not be approved for acne treatments. Forman says you should check with your insurance company prior to treatment.
