One modern example of bad crisis management was the BP gulf oil disaster. In the days following the accident, BP said they had a crisis management plan to clean up and fix the well. But, as it turned out, they didn’t have any plan to deal with the aftermath of an oil spill. Rep. Ed Markey (D- Mass.) said they indeed had a “plan”, but it included concerns like how to protect walruses, even though there are no walruses in the gulf.

PR crisis for Brett Favre? Sexting scandal! Naked cell phone pictures purportedly of Favre exposed on websites

Even if true the scandal itself even though it involves naked photos is not likely to erode Brett Favre’s fan base unless there’s a lot more to his life that we don’t know. This is really about his legacy and whether people remember him more for the scandal or for his legendary playing for the Packers. I do wonder whether he wishes he would’ve retired because then the story would not be nearly as big.
