TAMPA, Fla. / PRNewsChannel, the only press release newswire created by journalists, announced today that it has adopted The Associated Press (AP) guidelines for style and grammar, becoming the first press release distribution company to fully embrace the news industry standard.
"The decision to embrace the AP style guidelines was an easy one for us to make because of the journalism standards this company was founded on," says Glenn Selig, president and CEO of Selig Multimedia, Inc., which owns and operates PRNewsChannel. "This move raises the bar for quality in the press release distribution industry."
The "AP Stylebook" is considered the newspaper industry standard and is also used by broadcasters, magazines and public relations firms. It includes an A-to-Z listing of guides to capitalization, abbreviation, spelling, numerals and usage.
Selig says PRNewsChannel (https://prnewschannel.com) has always required that press releases meet journalistic requirements. By adopting the AP (www.ap.org) style, the press release newswire is standardizing those requirements and, in so doing, increasing the chances of press releases getting picked up by news outlets.
"Surveys of journalists we've conducted show that the quality of press releases makes a difference in whether the press release receives pickup," says Selig. "This ultimately will help our clients gain publicity."
The PRNewsChannel editorial team is comprised entirely of former award-winning journalists who review press releases before they are sent via the press release distribution company.
