TAMPA, Fla. / Hands can be a true indicator of one’s age. Tampa dermatologist Dr. Seth Forman says while many people undergo anti-aging procedures for their face, like fillers and microdermabrasion, they forget about their hands.
“The hands are one of the first places to show your age. Creases, dark spots and veins are all indicators,” says the Tampa dermatologist. “People spend thousands of dollars on their face, but rarely do anything for their hands. Hand rejuvenation is a must for anti-aging.”
Forman says the hands are constantly exposed to sunlight, which speeds up the aging process. “It’s not always feasible to wear sunscreen on your hands, since we wash them so many times during the day,” he says.
There are several steps that can be taken to rejuvenate the hands. Forman says one place to start is the cleanser and moisturizer you use.
“The Obagi skin care line is great for the face, but it also works well to remove age spots and relieve some of the wrinkling,” says Dr. Forman. “The Obagi products also improve the texture of the skin.”
The Tampa dermatologist says fillers and laser treatments are also an option.
“Botox, Sculptra and other fillers can be used to enhance the volume and fill wrinkles on the back of hands,” he says. “It is a gradual process that can take several treatments, but the result is younger looking hands.”
