LOS ANGELES / Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may be more popular than ever, but it's ringing in 2011 with an alarm glitch on the iPhone.
It's an apparent iPhone alarm glitch. Alarms on Apple's mobile phones failed to go off January 1 and 2, causing many to oversleep and miss church, flights or other appointments.
While iPhone alarms weren't lighting up, Twitter sure was, with complaints.
"Mr. Jobs, were you not anticipating 2011 when designing the iPhone?" one person Tweeted.
Another Twitter user compared the problem to Y2K and was left "wondering if my iPhone alarm will actually work in the morning."
It's the second very public setback for Apple and its iPhone in just a few months.
"People love their iPhones, but missing a plane or an important event is tough for even the biggest fans to overlook," says Glenn Selig, founder of the crisis management PR firm, The Publicity Agency. "Reliability needs to be the centerpiece of any phone and Apple must reassure its loyal customers that a pattern is not beginning to develop."
Apple spokeswoman Natalie Harrison told 'Macworld' Sunday that the company knows about the problem.
"We're aware of an issue related to non-repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2," Harrison said. "Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3."
The problem apparently affected iPhone 4 models and some older models that had software upgrades.
