In addition to making big splashes with investments of more than $100 million in a diverse network of companies, New York business mogul Robert Toussie has also made considerable monetary donations to organizations of peaceful religions both domestically and abroad.

Robert Toussie has continued to support organizations that promote religious peace through generous donations.

But that would only be half of the story. To really know the celebrated business mogul and renowned philanthropist is to understand he researches each of his charitable endeavors much in the same way he attacks his corporate investments.

Regardless of industry and regardless of religion, if Robert Toussie feels his investment or donation will have the right impact or do the most good, he jumps in with checkbook in hand. The 69-year-old entrepreneur has made several corporate investments of more than $100 million in toy companies, food manufacturers, department store chains and even Bible publishers, all while making generous donations to peaceful religious organizations like Yeshiva Gedolah Bais Yisroel in Brooklyn, N.Y., and the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in Gujarat, India.

Though these schools are separated by more than 7,000 miles, they both caught the interest and gained the financial support of Robert Toussie because they are dedicated to improving the quality of life of the less fortunate in their respective communities and helping their students receive the best education possible.

Blending business and religious support

Robert Toussie continued to build his personal fortune and develop his reputation as a successful corporate strategist with a series of $100+ million investments in the 1980s. The celebrated businessman relied on his proven strategy of investing in companies with stable businesses that were suffering from temporary, yet ultimately curable problems.

This included an eclectic group of companies that may not seem to have much in common, but who ultimately garnered nine-figure investments from Robert Toussie. Companies like the Lionel toy company, the model train makers, Heck’s department store, a discount store chain with stores in several states, and Zondervan Corp., one of the biggest publishers of the Bible in the world, all piqued Toussie’s interest enough to where he put together investment groups to turn the companies around.

As he was doing this, he was also beginning philanthropic relationships with organizations of religious peace both in his local community and halfway around the world. Though Robert Toussie and his family come from traditional Jewish roots and continues to support New York Jewish institutions like Yeshiva Gedolah Bais Yisroel, the dedicated philanthropist has supported charities of other religions, including the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in Gujarat, India.

Yeshiva Gedolah Bais Yisroel has used Robert Toussie’s donations to teach the Torah to the future scholars of the Jewish community and develop a new generation of talmidei chachomim (Torah scholars) who the school hopes will grow to peacefully spread the word of the Torah around the world. The Convent of Jesus and Mary School has used the donations to teach young women from several different tribes across the country skills like reading and writing, tailoring, cooking and home remedies for small ailments. The Convent has also been able to start a boarding school for more than 200 girls and launch a small health care center in outlying areas.

Robert Toussie continues philanthropic mission

While some philanthropists may shy away from making donations to religious organizations for fear of controversy or affiliation concerns, Robert Toussie has made it a point to do the research necessary to make sure he supports religions of peace. In so doing, the successful entrepreneur has helped countless Jews and gentiles receive the best education possible, get the best medical care available, and ultimately, live a more promising life.

This commitment to charitable acts is something he has passed on to younger generations of his family as well. His son, Isaac Toussie, has helped continue his father’s charitable relationships, and has also forged new philanthropic associations with a diverse network of non-profits and charities of his own. He has worked with several charities who have helped the sick, blind and poor across the country, and it has been documented that thousands of people have benefited from his medical contributions. Lives have been saved, suffering has been diminished, and illnesses have been treated and, in some cases, even cured.
