BROOKLYN, N.Y. / In the business world, Robert Toussie has long understood the importance of addressing the cause of a problem and not just its effects. That mindset is also evident in the successful New York businessman’s philanthropic endeavors, as he has developed donor relationships with some of the most successful and aggressive medical research facilities in the country.
The list reads like a veritable ‘who’s who’ of the medical field. The New York University School of Medicine, the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College at Cornell University and the Mount Sinai Medical Center are all leaders in medical research, and have all been the recipients of generous monetary donations from Robert Toussie.
Robert’s son, Isaac Toussie, has continued this commitment to furthering medical study and disease prevention by working with the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York and with the Community Cancer Center of the Medstar network. Through significant monetary donations of his own, he has helped not only with medical research, but also with more hands-on, day-to-day support that helps improve the lives of cancer patients.

The Mount Sinai Medical Center, the NYU School of Medicine and Weill Medical College at Cornell University are all committed to the same end goal as Robert Toussie: eradicating diseases that bring tragedy and heartache to millions of American families every year. Each of these respected medical institutions has seen remarkable success in its efforts, and they’ve been able to continue their studies and their research thanks in large part to the support they receive from private donors.
Various departments of the NYU School of Medicine have benefitted from Robert Toussie’s donations, including dermatology, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, immunology and orthopedic surgery. The Mount Sinai Medical Center has used his generous donations to fund research studies and medical success in fields like immunobiology, gastroenterology and endocrinology, while the Weill Cornell Medical College has used its donations to treat medical emergencies like prenatal complications, several forms of cancer, sports injuries and HIV. Founded in 1989, the College has also developed a major affiliation with the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, which caught the eye of the future generation of Toussie philanthropists.
Isaac Toussie continues family mission
The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York may be more well-known than Medstar’s Community Cancer Center, but their goals are the same: they both strive to ease the pain of cancer sufferers and to one day find a cure for the disease that is one of the biggest killers in the United States. Isaac Toussie was driven to donate to MSKCC because of the Center’s celebrated research studies, treatment programs and biomedical investigations. His support has helped MSKCC fund vital laboratory research, implement new treatment protocols and improved drugs, develop and enhance surgical techniques to treat cancer and help MSKCC improve their contact with patients after their treatment has been completed.
Medstar’s Community Cancer Center has used Isaac Toussie’s generous donations to purchase 50 brand new human hair wigs in various shades, sizes and lengths to help its patients feel better about the changes inflicted upon their bodies by their various cancer treatments. The wigs have tremendously enhanced the Center’s salon and have been able to bring a level of comfort and happiness to dozens of women of all ages.
It may seem to be part of a prerequisite to be a part of his family, but Isaac Toussie caught the philanthropy bug at a young age. After becoming one of the youngest MBAs the NYU Business School ever produced at the age of 21, Toussie formally entered the business world and with that, began his philanthropy work that has seen him forge charitable associations with a diverse network of non-profits and charities of his own. He has worked with several charities who have helped the sick, blind and poor across the country, and it has been documented that thousands of people have benefited from his medical contributions. Lives have been saved, suffering has been diminished, and illnesses have been treated and, in some cases, even cured.
