ELGIN, Ill. / United Food Group created its Perfect Servings machines to help businesses reduce waste and save money on office coffee service. The coffee condiment units dispense a pre-portioned amount of creamer, sugar and other sweeteners, eliminating the need for paper and plastic packaging.
United Food Group is committed to going green at work and in their work. Company President Bryan Real offers this advice for businesses trying to be more eco-friendly.
Be Light Bright
More than 40 percent of the light used in office settings is artificial light. Eco-friendly compact fluorescent light bulbs save money and energy. A traditional 100 watt bulb needs 100 watts of power to operate. A 100 watt energy efficient bulb requires only about 20 watts of power. Energy efficient bulbs also last up to ten times longer than normal bulbs.
Another good habit is to turn off lights when leaving any room for 15 minutes or more. Also, use natural light whenever possible.
Going Green Does Compute
Maximize computer use in the office by investing in energy-saving computers, monitors and printers. Computers in the business sectors waste $1 billion worth of electricity each year. Make sure computers are shut off at the end of the day. Also, setting a computer to go to “sleep” automatically during breaks can cut energy use by 70 percent. Screen savers waste energy.
Make sure to recycle old computers. Find a company that follows safety guidelines and properly disposes hazardous waste.
Properly Pitch Paper
Begin a recycling program. Collect all paper, including fax paper, envelopes, magazines and cardboard boxes. When possible, print on both sides of paper.
Another idea is to go paperless whenever possible. Make employee handbooks and other material digital with copies online. It’s easier to distribute and update the material, as well.
Establish an Eco-Friendly Environment
Purchase office supplies and furniture made from recycled material. Make it a point to use non-toxic, eco-friendly cleaning supplies. And add plants to a work environment, which absorbs indoor pollution.
You can also ramp up office recycling by collecting batteries, toner cartridges, cell phones and other portable electronic devices.
Green is Good in the Kitchen
Save money and reduce waste by providing reusable dishes, silverware and glasses in the office break room. It is also good to offer fair trade and organic coffees and teas. And provide filtered drinking water to reduce bottled water waste.
The Perfect Servings coffee condiment dispensers make it easy to go green in the break room. Filling one three product dispenser saves more than 900 sugar and creamer packets from reaching landfills. Products for the machine come in cardboard and plastic packaging that can easily be recycled. Businesses also save money from wasted or spilled product and packets taken home by employees.
As an incentive to get more companies to try Perfect Servings, United Food Group will host a Go Green Office Party. The offer comes with a free one week trial of the coffee condiment dispenser, five reusable coffee mugs, three visors and three shirts. Businesses can learn more by logging on to the Perfect Servings website (www.perfectservings.com).
The Perfect Servings machines can dispense three or four coffee condiment products. The company also sells instant cappuccino, hot chocolate and fruit-flavored drink mixes for its machines.
