Tampa, Fla. and Orlando, Fla. / As tens of thousands of flights worldwide remain cancelled due to the cloud of volcanic ash, those stranded in Tampa and Orlando are being offered a free distraction: Free tickets to Busch Gardens and SeaWorld.
Now through April 21, 2010, or until international flight schedules resume, stranded European travelers can a bring a valid return ticket to the park and will receive free admission to Busch Gardens Tampa and Seaworld Orlando.
The theme parks say travelers can pick up these tickets at either the Busch Gardens or Seaworld guest services window.
The flight bans began in Europe after fears that the volcanic ash, which is a mixture of glass, sand and rock particles, could seriously damage aircraft engines.
The volcanic ash in Iceland caused flight cancellations to and from Ireland, the United Kingdom, and much of Continental Europe.
The gesture of kindness is being praised by Glenn Selig, a public relations expert based in Tampa.
"This is a trying time to travelers and to their families," says Selig, founder of The Publicity Agency (http://www.thepublicityagency.com). "This is what corporate America should do. It is also a smart move by these theme parks because of the positive coverage this offer will generate."
If the volcanic activity does not settle down by next Wednesday, Busch Gardens and SeaWorld say the free ticket offer may be extended.
