Tampa, Fla. / Dr. Seth Forman is urging everyone to see a dermatologist on a regular basis, following new statistics released by the National Cancer Institute. The Tampa dermatologist says the stats shows deaths from melanoma, a form of skin cancer, are on the rise among men and women.
“Seeing a dermatologist should be part of your annual physical routine,” says the Tampa dermatologist. “Your skin is the largest organ in your body. Having moles and other changes in the skin checked once a year could save your life.”
Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. More than 68,000 people were diagnosed with the disease in 2009. Dr. Forman says one of the most common causes of melanoma is sun exposure.
“It is important to use sunscreen daily, especially if you live in a sunny place like Florida,” he says. “Having five or more sunburns, no matter at what age, can double your melanoma risk.”
