(PRNewsChannel) / Orlando, Fla. / Four years ago, Michelle Incandela hoped her daughter Gina would be talking. She prayed she’d be in a classroom with regular kids. But the 6 year old diagnosed with autism at age 2 has gone well beyond that. Gina is one of the country’s youngest recording artists. She just released her debut single, ‘I Dare to Dream.’
Over the last year, the child phenom has sung live before thousands at the U.S. Open, tens of thousands at professional sports stadiums for the NBA, MLB and soon the NHL, belting out the National Anthem with a power and grace to match the most seasoned adult performer.
“I really like my new song,” says Gina, “I think people will like it too and it will make them so happy. It was fun being in the studio.”
When Gina was diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder, in addition to not being able to speak she also experienced other developmental delays. She had difficulty transitioning and did not adapt well to new environments. She was often afraid in public and could not tolerate noisy places such as theme parks or carnivals. Yet today, despite still having autism, she is able to manage the disease and enjoy typical childhood activities.
After intensive early intervention, Gina started to speak at age 3. During music therapy, Gina began to sing. When she started singing her parents notice dramatic improvement in her speech. It was also apparent to that she had a gift for song. Music has been critical key in helping Gina progress in her battle against autism, according to her mother Michelle.
“It’s amazing to see what she has accomplished given where she started,” says Michelle Incandela. “I am so proud of her. This would be an incredible accomplishment for any child but considering what Gina has overcome, this is really a miracle.”
She says Gina’s voice represents hope for all children diagnosed and her song is meant to send a message to children and parents to keep reaching for your dreams.
Gina’s mother hopes her daughter acts as an inspiration for other youngsters and that her achievements offer hope to parents whose children receive an autism diagnosis and encourages them to seek intervention as quickly as possible.
“Gina is living proof that in some cases autism can be overcome. Although all children are different, music has done wonders for Gina. Her dream is coming true.”
Gina’s single is available on her Web site www.ginachildperformer.com for $4.99.
