Tampa, Fla. / The on your site builder, Tampa-based All State Homes, recently appeared on WTSP, 10 Connects News (CBS), owned and operated by Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE:GCI), All State Homes said.
Reporter Preston Rudie visited a lot where All State will soon start building a new home for displaced Tampa resident Arthur Schulke. Schulke lost his home on Alvina Street to an electrical fire in January. Since then, he has been living in a rented home with his son and two adult daughters, both of whom are mentally challenged.
Schulke suffered a stroke in the early 1990s and has trouble standing for long periods of time. His wife, Connie, died just a month after the fire destroyed their home.
The WTSP 10 Connects news story focused on the struggles Schulke experienced and the good will of All State Homes in donating time and construction costs to build a new home. The 4 bedroom, 2 bath home will be more accessible for the entire family but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.
“Preston Rudie’s visit with the family has already resulted in at least once donation of time and work from a company willing to do trim work around the new home,” said Ivy Norwood from All State Homes.
All State Homes took up the cause after Dan Larson saw the charred home and contacted Schulke.
“This was a situation where you just had to help,” Larson said. “You hear Mr. Schulke’s story and you realize how fortunate you are and you’ll do anything to just help him get back into a nice home. My hope is that the community will see that need as well and come out to help.”
The story aired during the 6 p.m. newscast of 10 Connects on Thursday evening.
