Creator of 80’s TV Series ‘Puttin on the Hits’ Launches New National Lip Sync Talent Search
Can’t sing? No problem. The National Lip Sync Talent Search contest offers the chance to be a star. Nationwide auditions begin in San Diego on Oct. 16.

(PRNewsChannel) / San Diego, Calif. / More than 20 years after the TV series ‘Puttin on the Hits’ first debuted, the search is once again on for the best Lip Sync artist, the creator of the original 80’s show announced today.
The nationwide search for the best Lip Sync artist kicks off in San Diego and will visit 100 U.S. cities before it’s complete.
“Lip Sync contests are once again gaining popularity among young adults across the country,” says Wm. Randy Wood, the creator of the original show and also behind this latest Lip Sync search. “This was huge in the 80’s and lip synching is again big today.”
Whether it’s “Disturbia” by Rihanna, “Forever” from Chris Brown, “Burnin’ Up” by the Jonas Brothers or just about any song from Miley Cyrus aka Hannah Montana, lip synching is making a comeback.
The original ‘Puttin on the Hits’ was a music variety show hosted by Allen Fawcett, produced by dick clark productions and distributed by MCA-TV (now NBC/Universal). The program spotlighted ordinary people as they mimicked their favorite performers.
Winners representing each city from this Lip Synch talent search will appear on an all-new television series to air next year. The series will feature a competition of look-alike impersonators who Lip Sync the lyrics to some of the world’s most famous music stars.
The first auditions take place October 16 at 7pm at Channel 1225 Video Club in San Diego with contests every Thursday night. The grand finals will be held on Nov. 20. The contest will also benefit Charity Music, an all volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit public service organization, which provides musical instruments on loan to at risk and disadvantaged youth wishing to explore their hidden musical talents and cultivate the next crop of upcoming young artists.
“Our mission is to help cultivate the next upcoming crop of young artists, and volunteers are instrumental to our success," says Roger Fachini, president of Charity Music.
In November, the lip synch search moves to Los Angeles.
The contests will be licensed to clubs, malls, radio stations and a variety of venues throughout the country with the top winners representing their city as they move on to national stardom.
About The National Lip Sync Talent Search: Sponsored by Long Hard Ride (www.LongHardRide.net), the San Diego search will run six consecutive weeks with a grand final competition on November 20, 2008. Contestants will be judged on Lip Sync Ability, Appearance, Use of the Microphone, and Audience Response. Winners will receive cash and prizes and advance to the San Diego city finals for their efforts as well as a shot to appear on national television. Based on the response so far contestants will be signed up on a first come first served basis. Tickets will be available online and at the door.
A portion of the revenues will benefit the San Diego Chapter of Charity Music.
